Former Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman feels that Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale should not turn down any potential offer from the Spanish club.

The Welshman has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants for the majority of the season, and McManaman, who moved from Liverpool to Madrid in 1999, thinks that Bale cannot afford to reject a transfer to the nine-time European champions or their La Liga rivals Barcelona.

"If he ever has the opportunity to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, I would never say 'no' to them," McManaman is quoted as saying in The Mirror.

"I think sooner or later, whether it's this year or next year, he needs to be playing against the best people in the world.

"He needs to be testing himself against the best players in the world because he is arguably one of the best players in the world on current form."

Bale scooped both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards last season after a blistering campaign that saw him net 21 goals for Spurs.
