Real Madrid must pay a record £225m to sign Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report.

Real Madrid have reportedly been informed by Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy that it will take a world-record offer of £225m to land Christian Eriksen.

The European champions are believed to have upped their interest in the Danish playmaker as part of a major squad overhaul over the next seven months, having won just half of their 18 matches in La Liga this season.

In the wake of speculation suggesting that Madrid are preparing a £100m offer for top target Eriksen, Spanish outlet AS claims that Los Blancos will fall well short with their approach.

Spurs are instead holding out for a record transfer fee, around £27m more than Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona in August 2017, with Levy refusing to budge.

Eriksen has impressed on a consistent basis for Tottenham across his 251 appearances, but he is now into the final 18 months of his deal and has offered no indication that he is willing to stay on.

The same report claims that, despite interest from Bayern Munich and PSG, the 26-year-old will only consider leaving North London for one of Barcelona or long-term admirers Madrid.
