Balague: Madrid are "less optimistic" of signing Bale

Spanish football expert Guilleme Balague has suggested that Real Madrid are no longer confident of signing Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale this summer.

Madrid, who usually get what they want in the transfer market, have made Bale their number one target.

However, Spurs, who have rejected a world record £85m bid, are adamant that the Welshman will remain at White Hart Lane this season unless their valuation of £120m is met.

Balague believes that Madrid would like Bale to force Spurs to lower their asking price by handing in a transfer request and refusing to play for Andre Villas-Boas's team.

However, the respected journalist does not expect Bale to rebel, meaning that the 24-year-old's six-year stay in North London is likely to be extended.

Balague tweeted: "RM wld like Bale 2 rebel. He wont. Spurs want him 2 stay 1 more yr. RM will try till the last day but less optimistic now #thisnotoveryet"

Bale's last appearance for Spurs came during their first friendly of pre-season - a 1-1 draw at Swindon Town on July 16.
