Tottenham out to end worst derby losing run for 17 years

Tottenham Hotspur will aim to avoid equalling a 17-year losing run when they welcome Brentford to North London on Thursday evening.

The Lilywhites have failed to produce the goods in capital derbies this season and have already lost to West Ham United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Furthermore, defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates back in March means that Antonio Conte's side head into Thursday's game on the back of five consecutive Premier League defeats versus fellow sides from London.

Should Spurs fall to defeat against Brentford this week, it will mark the first time in 17 years that they have suffered six consecutive top-flight London derby losses, most recently posting that dismal streak between March 2003 and January 2004.

However, Harry Kane - who will aim to make Brentford the 31st team he has scored against in the Premier League - has developed a penchant for playing on Thursdays, registering eight goals from eight top-flight games on that day.

Spurs head into the derby seventh in the Premier League table - four places and three points better off than Brentford.
