Report: Franco Baldini offered to step down at Tottenham Hotspur

A report claims that Tottenham Hotspur technical director Franco Baldini's offer of resignation on the back of Andre Villas-Boas's sacking was immediately rejected.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly rejected technical director Franco Baldini's offer of resignation on Monday.

The Italian's recruitment role has come under scrutiny, with many of the seven players, including three club-record arrivals, that he was responsible for signing in the summer yet to settle at White Hart Lane.

However, it was manager Andre Villas-Boas who paid the price for Spurs' high expectations when he was sacked last week, with the club seventh in the Premier League table despite spending £100m.

According to The Telegraph, Baldini volunteered to step down on the same day, but his offer was immediately rebuffed by chairman Daniel Levy, who has given the 53-year-old the responsibility of finding a new boss.

Interim head coach Tim Sherwood is currently the favourite to take the Lillywhites hot seat, although a report on Sunday claimed that Spurs have put Dutchman Louis van Gaal on the top of their shortlist.
