Mauricio Pochettino "very pleased" with Eric Dier debut

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that he is "very pleased" with how new signing Eric Dier performed in Saturday's 2-1 win over Schalke 04.

Spurs concluded their pre-season campaign by beating the Bundesliga outfit at White Hart Lane, courtesy of goals in either half from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.

Dier, who signed from Sporting Lisbon earlier this month, played the full 90 minutes, and the Argentine coach says that he is enthused by the youngster's debut.

"Eric is still young but he has a lot of potential. He did well, we're very pleased," he told reporters.

Tottenham kick off their new Premier League season by facing West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday.
