Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has been critical of the club's performances over the course of the season, labelling them as "poor".
Levy sacked Andre Villas-Boas earlier on this season and replaced him with Tim Sherwood, who looks likely to secure a Europa League place for the club.
However, in his programme notes, Levy has made it clear that Spurs should be performing to a higher standard, insisting that they have fallen short of the required standards at White Hart Lane.
Levy wrote: "No team can guarantee a top-four finish. However, that's not just what its about.
"Our sense of falling short - felt by all including the players - is based on some poor performances during the season and knowing we have not performed at the level we know we could have done.
"Even in games where we gained maximum points, our football was not always what we have come to expect and associated with our club."
Levy is expected to replace Sherwood in the summer, with Ajax manager Frank de Boer a favourite to land the job.
