Eric Dier: 'No excuses for Tottenham Hotspur'

Eric Dier believes that Tottenham Hotspur lacked intensity in the second half of their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Eric Dier has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could have no complaints following the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

Spurs were in charge thanks to a first-half header from Dier, but substitutes Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez struck for the visitors as Newcastle claimed a vital win in their battle to avoid relegation.

Despite suffering just their second Premier League defeat of the season, Dier was in no mood to take the positives as Spurs missed the chance to climb up to fourth.

"You make your own luck," the England international told the club's website. "We weren't good enough in the second half. There are no excuses.

"We needed to come out with the same intensity in the second half but didn't. Everyone is down.

"It hurts. We want to win more than anyone. We need to learn from it and put it right next weekend."

Spurs have won just one of their last five league games.
