Toby Alderweireld "confident" Tottenham Hotspur can finish in top four

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is "confident" that the team can achieve their target of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

Tottenham Hotspur's new defender Toby Alderweireld has insisted that he and his teammates are capable of dislodging one of the favourites to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

The Belgium international, who signed for Spurs from Atletico Madrid earlier this month, has stated that qualifying for the Champions League is the club's main ambition.

Last season, Spurs finished fifth in the table, six points below Manchester United, who claimed the final spot for the elite European competition.

"Well, we have to see," FourFourTwo quotes Alderweireld as saying. "We have a young, talented group with a lot of potential.

"We want to finish in the top four so that is going to be difficult, it always is in the Premier League. We are confident in ourselves to achieve that."

Tottenham last finished in the top four in the 2011-12 season.
