Tottenham Hotspur made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League on Saturday with a narrow 2-1 victory at home to Burnley.

The hosts took the lead on 21 minutes when Harry Kane converted from close range, but the away side made it 1-1 soon after thanks to Ashley Barnes's spectacular strike from the edge of the box.

However, Spurs made sure of the points before the break as Erik Lamela found the net from 25 yards for his first Premier League goal.

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of today's Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley at White Hart Lane. There plenty at stake for both sides in the capital, and we should have some team news for you shortly.

SPURS: Lloris; Walker, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies; Bentaleb, Mason; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane

SPURS SUBS: Vorm, Chiriches, Rose, Dembele, Stambouli, Townsend, Soldado

After seeing his side earn a dramatic win away to Swansea City last weekend, Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino has made just the one change for today's match. Roberto Soldado has to settle for a place on the bench, while Nacer Chadli is recalled for the hosts. That means Harry Kane will play as the lone striker this afternoon following his appearance in a deeper role against the Swans.

BURNLEY: Heaton; Trippier, Shackell, Keane, Mee; Arfield, Marney, Jones, Boyd; Barnes, Ings

BURNLEY SUBS: Gilks, Reid, Wallace, Kightly, Jutkiewicz, Chalobah, Long

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has taken a practical approach to today's game, naming the same side that beat Southampton 1-0 last weekend. Tom Heaton starts in goal for the visitors, while Ben Mee, George Boyd and Danny Ings all feature. If it ain't broke...

Spurs could go as high as fifth place in the table today if they pick up a third consecutive victory in all competitions. Mauricio Pochettino's side got back to winning ways in the league against Swansea last weekend before hammering Newcastle United 4-0 in the League Cup quarter-finals in midweek. It's been a tricky start to the season for the North Londoners, but you get the feeling that they might just be turning a corner.

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen: "We have a long way to go, but we are on a good way. Sometimes it is two steps forward and one back, but we are definitely improving."

Burnley travel to White Hart Lane having hauled themselves out of the drop zone last weekend with a 1-0 win over high-flying Southampton. The Clarets have suffered just one defeat in their last six matches, and a second consecutive victory today could launch them as high as 14th place in the standings.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "We're going to White Hart Lane, there's only one favourite, we're playing Liverpool, there's only one favourite, we're playing Man City, there's one favourite.

"I'm not doing us down, but there is. If you walk into any bookies they will be favourite. I think there was a rare game when we played Hull, I think, and we weren't the underdogs. That's one game in 16.

"So there lies the truth, bookies rarely get it wrong with that sort of stuff. We're still underdogs, all I'm saying is we're maybe a bit more serious underdogs than maybe people thought at first. I don't remotely think there's a manager out there looking at it like that. That's the outside view. Managers and professionals know they have to be on their guard and they have to play well."

HEAD TO HEAD: It may surprise you, but Burnley have the better record when it comes to past meetings between these teams. The Clarets have won 37 games compared to 36 for Spurs. Meanwhile, the two sides have played out a total of 23 draws.

The last time that they faced off in the Premier League was back in the 2009-10 campaign, with each team claiming a victory. Spurs smashed Burnley 5-0 at White Hart Lane, but the Clarets exacted some revenge at Turf Moor a few months later with a 4-2 triumph. Interestingly enough, Burnley and Spurs have three wins apiece in their last six encounters.

Got a spare few minutes before kickoff? Why not check out our video preview for this afternoon's match:

UPDATE! Today's early kickoff in the Premier League has just finished at the Etihad Stadium, where champions Manchester City have kept the pressure on leaders Chelsea with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. David Silva scored twice for the Blues, while Yaya Toure completed the scoring late on.

That win for Man City has actually taken the champions level on points with leaders Chelsea, though Jose Mourinho's side can restore their three-point lead on Monday when they make the trip to Stoke City. The Premier League title race has become pretty spicy in the last few weeks, despite Chelsea's dominance at the start of the campaign.

Sean Dyche has repeatedly played down his side's chances for this afternoon's clash at White Hart Lane, but the visitors can take plenty of encouragement from the fact that Spurs have been a bit shaky at home this season. The Clarets are also one of the form teams in the top flight at the moment, taking 11 points from the last 18 on offer.

One of the Spurs players in that image below is Harry Kane, and there will be a fair bit of pressure on him to lead the home side's attacking line this afternoon. However, the young Englishman has been impressive so far this season, scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances. Just as well, considering Roberto Soldado's inconsistency in the final third.

It's worth mentioning that Emmanuel Adebayor was rumoured to be in the Spurs squad this afternoon after returning to training following an approved leave of absence for personal reasons. However, the Togo striker is not in the starting lineup or on the bench.

Not long to go until kickoff as the players start to emerge in the tunnel at White Hart Lane. Hugo Lloris will skipper Spurs once again this afternoon in place of Younes Kaboul, while Jason Shackell stands at the front of the Burnley lineup. There are plenty of fans packed into the stadium, including a healthy smattering of away fans in the far corner.

Here come the teams!

KICKOFF! The players are out, the pre-match handshakes have been done, and it will be Spurs to get us underway. Here we go!

CHANCE! It's been a lively start to the game, and Burnley come close to scoring the opening goal. A slippery attack from the visitors sees Trippier whip a deep cross to the back post, but Arfield's volley goes over the crossbar. To be fair, it was a difficult opening. Meanwhile, Spurs full-back Davies goes into the book for a late challenge on Boyd.

Sean Dyche will be pleased with what he's seen from his players during the opening few minutes. The visitors are looking confident and full of positivity at the moment as Spurs try to find their rhythm.

This is more like it from Spurs. The hosts are starting to pile a bit of pressure on Burnley, forcing the away side further back. A short-corner routine from Tottenham sees Eriksen eventually have a crack at goal from a difficult angle that forced Heaton into a low save. Lamela and Kane in particular have looked lively for the hosts during the early stages.

That decent start from Burnley seems to have been short-lived because Spurs are now seeing a huge chunk of the ball. The home side are passing it about patiently, making the visitors work hard to win it back. You get the feeling that Burnley's midfielders are going to need lots of stamina and discipline this afternoon.

Despite all of this possession for Spurs, they're struggling to do much with it. That won't be a huge concern with just a handful of minutes played, but the White Hart Lane faithful will be eager to see some vibrant attacking play today. One example of the home side's lack of direction sees Eriksen hit a poor cross-field pass to Davies when it looked as if a cross would have been more effective.

An intricate move from Spurs sees Chadli and Mason link down the left, but the latter's cross evades everyone and goes out of play. Burnley won't been too displeased with how this game is panning out right now. The visitors are happy to soak up what pressure is being put on them, and they're doing a good job of it as well. Kane receives the ball a good 30 yards from goal before trying to curl one into the top corner, though his effort eventually goes high and wide.

WHOOSH! Spurs get a good opportunity when they win a free kick on the right side of the box. The ball is rolled to Mason, who is lurking in a more central position, but his shot goes into the stand. The young midfielder looks a little bit embarrassed by that attempt.

GOAL! SPURS 1-0 BURNLEY (KANE)

Harry Kane does it again to give Spurs the lead! It's a clever goal from the hosts, who win a free kick before taking it quickly. Chadli is played in down the left before whipping a teasing cross into the box, and there is Kane to tap home from close range.

It was Kane who actually took that free kick quickly before making a surging run into the box to score. Referee Mike Jones gave it after Keane had handled, though it was hard for the youngster to get out of the way.

Up until that goal there hadn't been a great deal of urgency about Spurs. Burnley have been sitting incredibly deep, inviting the hosts onto them, but Tottenham just haven't been particularly clinical.

GOAL! SPURS 1-1 BURNLEY (BARNES)

What a strike from Ashley Barnes to draw Burnley level! That is a superb strike! The striker receives the ball from Boyd on the edge of the box before smashing a powerful drive past Lloris and into the top corner. Barnes has hardly had a touch this afternoon, but he's certainly made an impact with that goal. Game on!

CHANCE! This game has certainly come to life now! Lamela does well down the right, jinking his way past a couple of defenders before putting a low cross into the box that causes havoc. Burnley fail to clear their lines, allowing Kane a sight of goal on the angle, though he can only fire over the bar.

It's certainly been a curious match so far. Spurs haven't shown a great deal of urgency this afternoon, despite Burnley sitting back and inviting them forward. A more clinical edge in front of goal and the home side could be two or three up. Instead, Burnley have taken one of their few chances and are level.

GOAL! SPURS 2-1 BURNLEY (LAMELA)

Erik Lamela scores his first Premier League goal for Spurs and it's an absolute beauty! The Argentine is given too much time on the right, allowing him to cut onto his left foot and curl a wonderful effort from 25 yards past Heaton and into the far corner. Sensational.

CHANCE! This game has really livened up during the past 10 minutes or so, with Burnley coming close to making it 2-2. Spurs do an awful job if clearing a free kick from the visitors as Boyd suddenly gets the ball in a dangerous position. However, the Scot gets it caught under his feet before the hosts hack it clear.

CHANCE! Now it's Spurs who threaten as Eriksen plays in Mason with a perfectly-weighted ball, but the midfielder's first-time effort flashes over the bar. Mason stays down following the shot, and it looks as if that could be the end of the game for him.

SPURS SUB: That is indeed the end of Mason's afternoon as he goes off for Benjamin Stambouli. Let's hope the midfielder hasn't injured himself too badly.

There will be THREE MINUTES of added time at the end of the half...

HALF TIME: SPURS 2-1 BURNLEY

The half-time whistle goes, just seconds after Marney hits a low shot narrowly wide of the post from the edge of the box. It's been an entertaining opening 45 minutes, with Spurs leading 2-1.

While Spurs have the lead, it's been a far from convincing display from the hosts so far. They've seen plenty of the ball, but they've not done a great deal with it. Meanwhile, Burnley have looked dangerous on the counter-attack, as demonstrated by their equaliser when Barnes smashed the ball from in brilliant fashion.

Mauricio Pochettino is sure to be telling his players to be more ruthless in front of goal in the second half. A bit more composure in the final third and the hosts could have found themselves two or three up before Burnley got back into it. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche will be looking to keep his side compact, organised and disciplined. The Clarets, who have done okay so far, are far from out of this.

We've also seen a couple of brilliant goals from both sides today. Barnes's equaliser for Burnley was a fantastic strike, giving Lloris no chance from the edge of the box, while Lamela did something similar up the other end to put Spurs back in front. However, it would be a big surprise if the ball didn't find the net again during the second half.

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY! The teams are back out for the second half, with Burnley getting us back underway.

CHANCE! The visitors instantly go on the attack as Barnes feeds Ings. The striker is forced wide before forcing a save from Lloris. Spurs struggle to deal with the resulting corner, while a second set piece soon after is headed clear by Lamela.

That early opening for Ings seems to have jolted Spurs into life. They're seeing a lot of the ball around the Burnley box. Walker does well in one instance, drifting past the full-back before trying to pick out Eriksen in the area. However, the visitors get to the ball first and clear the danger.

Burnley aren't having a great deal of luck from an attacking point of view at the moment. Every time that Barnes or Ings get the ball up top, they are soon crowded out by the hosts. Tottenham then turn the screw at the other end of the pitch, with the likes of Lamela, Kane and Eriksen all looking lively in advanced positions.

CHANCE! Despite failing to cause too many problems for Spurs up front, Burnley come close to making it 2-2 through Ings. The striker is played through on goal by Barnes before having his effort palmed away by Lloris, who does really well to stop the ball from creeping into the near post.

It's all become a bit untidy from Spurs in the last few minutes. They're not doing a good job of keeping hold of the ball, giving Burnley a chance to win some possession and build a bit of pressure. As you might imagine, the Spurs fans are starting to voice their discontent with every misplaced pass.

Great defending from Shackell, who denies Kane his second goal of the game. A swift counter-attack from Tottenham sees Kane played in by Eriksen on the left. The striker is about to pull the trigger, but Burnley's captain makes an excellent last-ditch tackle to keep him at bay.

The possession is pretty even right now, though it's probably Burnley who are looking the more threatening. The visitors seem to sense that this is their best opportunity to get something out of this match because Spurs are looking a bit vulnerable at the back. Sean Dyche will be happy with the commitment and persistence of his side, but they need to make it count.

DISALLOWED GOAL! Spurs think that they've made it 3-1, but the flag goes up for offside after Chadli converts Kane's pass from close range. Replays show that it is the right decision from the officials.

Burnley have a little over 20 minutes to get something out of this match. They're continuing to pose Spurs a threat on the break as the hosts go for that killer third goal. There is a real sense of nervousness around White Hart Lane. If the home side fail to get that third goal then it is only going to get more edgy in North London.

It's end-to-end stuff as we head into the final 20 minutes. Spurs win themselves a corner thanks to good work from Lamela and Chadli, but Fazio's header from the resulting set piece is easily gathered by Heaton. Trippier's cross at the other end then nearly meets the head of Ings, only for the hosts to clear.

There's some concern over Ings now as he jogs around the pitch a bit gingerly. The striker took a knock earlier and he now seems to be having an issue with his lower back. However, he'll play on for the time being.

Spurs are trying to take a bit of the sting out of this match now, passing the ball about patiently and making Burnley do a lot of running. The home side carves open an opportunity on the right as Walker finds some space, but the full-back's cross evades everyone before going out of play. Chadli is then denied at the near post by Heaton after Tottenham win it back.

BURNLEY SUBS: The visitors make the first changes of the afternoon as Boyd and Arfield are replaced by Wallace and Kightly. Time is running out for the Clarets.

Kane is applauded by the Spurs fans as he wins the ball, holds it up and then gets the hosts ticking over again. However, he then ruins all of his hard work by rolling a pass straight through to Burnley goalkeeper Heaton. Tottenham are still in front, but this game is finely balanced.

CHANCE! Spurs attack Burnley through Eriksen, who wins the ball before making a powerful run down the left. The Dane tries to pick Kane out at the back post, but the youngster just can't get on the end of the cross.

SPURS SUB: The home side make a change now as Kane is replaced by Soldado. Can the Spaniard make his mark on this game during the final five minutes or so?

Something of a half-chance for Tottenham as a corner from the right is met by Fazio, who floats a harmless header the wrong side of the post. It's still very nervy inside White Hart Lane as the full-time whistle edges closer.

BURNLEY SUBS: A final swap for Burnley sees Barnes replaced by Jutkiewicz.

SAVE! He's found the net with a late free kick already this season, but Wallace is denied this time by Lloris. The midfielder's 25-yard effort looked to be sneaking in the bottom corner, only for the Tottenham captain to push it away. There will be THREE MINUTES of added time...

SPURS SUB: Another change for Spurs now as Eriksen is replaced by Rose for the final few seconds.

FULL TIME: SPURS 2-1 BURNLEY

It wasn't the easiest of wins by any means, but Spurs have made it back-to-back victories in the Premier League with a 2-1 triumph at home to Burnley. All three goals came in the first half, with Erik Lamela netting a fine winner after Ashley Barnes had cancelled out Harry Kane's opener.

That's all from our live text coverage of today's match, but don't forget that you can keep up to date with all of the reaction from both camps right here on Sports Mole. Thanks for your company, and have a good Christmas!
