Tottenham Hotspur injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up Tottenham Hotspur's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur head into Saturday's Premier League opener with Aston Villa having enjoyed a relatively successful pre-season.

Despite having ended their preparations for the new campaign with a penalty-shootout defeat to Inter Milan, Mauricio Pochettino has witnessed his team get the better of the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, the Spurs boss has been left with plenty of selection problems, with more than half-a-dozen players potentially unavailable to face Villa on Saturday evening.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the fixture in North London.

Dele Alli

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: August 25 (vs. Newcastle United)

Pochettino revealed at the weekend that Alli had suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury. While describing the setback as "minor", the Argentine does not feel that the England international will come back into contention until the end of the month.

Juan Foyth

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Having suffered a significant ankle injury during last month's Audi Cup final with Bayern Munich, Foyth will play no part during the opening weeks of the campaign.

Eric Dier

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Medical procedure
Possible return date: August 10 (vs. Villa)

Pochettino revealed at the weekend that Dier had taken part in some fitness work at the training ground as he continues his recovery from a medical procedure in July. However, while Dier has now returned to full training, he will only feature on the bench at best.

Serge Aurier

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hand
Possible return date: August 10 (vs. Villa)

Aurier underwent surgery on his hand towards the end of July, which leaves him as a major doubt for the game on Saturday, However, Pochettino revealed at the weekend that the right-back had begun work on the training ground.

Ben Davies

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: August 17 (vs. Manchester City)

Davies has endured a slow recovery since undergoing a groin operation during the summer break. Having played no part of last weekend's friendly with Inter Milan, the Welshman will not be in contention for the meeting with Villa.

Victor Wanyama

Possible return date: August 17 (vs. Man City)

Like with Dier and Aurier, Wanyama was present at the training ground at the weekend, rather than featuring against Inter Milan. However, while the midfielder is now taking a full part with the rest of the group, the Kenyan is unlikely to play against Villa.
