Agent: 'Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez wants Serie A return'

The agent of Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez says that his client wants to return to Serie A, with former club Bologna his first choice.

Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez wants to return to Serie A, according to the player's agent.

Ramirez signed for the Saints from Bologna in 2012 for a reported fee of £12m, but has made just 53 appearances and was last season sent out on loan to Hull City.

With that, the Uruguayan's agent Pablo Bentancour has voiced his client's desire to return to Serie A, with Bologna director Pantaleo Corvino still said to be an admirer of the 24-year-old playmaker.

"He wants to return to Italy," Bentancour told Corriere dello Sport. "Bologna would be his first choice.

"Realistically, he would want to leave at Christmas and he would also give up some of his wages if that is necessary. Corvino still rates him and it is only a matter of time before the deal goes through."

Ramirez has continued to be selected for the Uruguay international squad despite struggling to get games for Southampton, and was named in the Los Charruas World Cup 2014 squad.
