Southampton edge seven-goal thriller

Southampton ended their Premier League preparation with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Sociedad.

The Saints took the lead on seven minutes through a neat finish from Adam Lallana, but they were soon pegged back by a goal from Gorka Elustondo.

The home side regained the advantage when Morgan Schneiderlin teamed up with Victor Wanyama before firing the ball past the goalkeeper.

Former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela equalised for Sociedad five minutes later, before a Jos Hooiveld header earned Southampton the lead at the break.

Southampton had enjoyed the better start to the second half, but Sociedad fought back for a third time when Haris Seferovic bundled the ball home at the near post.

Both sides pushed for a winner, but it was Southampton who went ahead for the fourth time in the game when Jason Puncheon capitalised on some poor Sociedad defending to fire home the deciding goal with seven minutes remaining.
