Southampton 0-2 Leicester City

David Nugent and Matt Mills goals earn Leicester City a 2-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's.

Leicester City recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season with a 2-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's tonight.

The Saints knew three points would take them back to the top of the Championship table but it was the visitors who left with the victory to enhance their playoff chances.

Former Portsmouth forward David Nugent opened the scoring for Nigel Pearson's side with a 15th-minute strike.

He controlled a cross-field ball from Matt Mills before cutting inside from the Foxes' left and curling a shot past Kelvin Davis in the hosts' goal.

Leicester deservedly doubled their lead inside half-an-hour when Mills headed in from Shaun St Ledger's cross after the Saints failed to clear from a set-piece.

Jack Cork wasted an opportunity to bring the home side back into the game when he blazed over the crossbar at the far post from Morgan Schneiderlin's cross.

Ex-Liverpool full back Paul Konchesky nearly extended the Foxes' lead but saw his free kick rebound off the woodwork.

In the absence of Ricky Lambert and Adam Lallana, Nigel Adkins's side lacked the creativity to engineer a comeback as Leicester became just the second team to win at St Mary's this term.

Southampton return to action when they travel to Millwall in the FA Cup this weekend, while Leicester host League Two side Swindon Town.
