Nathan Redmond says Southampton knew that Manchester City would give them chances in their 1-1 draw, due to their defensive setup of three players at the back.

Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond has hailed his side's 1-1 draw at Manchester City, claiming that he knew the opposition would have gifted them chances due to their defensive setup.

The 22-year-old gave the Saints a first-half lead after capitalising on a mistake from John Stones, but Kelechi Iheanacho equalised for Man City 10 minutes into the second half.

Redmond told BBC Sport: "We can take a positive from it, come away with a point. With our mentality we want all three points even though we drew, we are frustrated to take a point but we keep moving.

"From watching them in preparation we knew they would give us chances, they only play three at the back. I was anticipating it and it was it just about keeping a cool head and putting the chance away."

The result sees Southampton climb to eighth in the Premier League table.
