Daniele De Rossi named Serie A's highest earner

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi is revealed as Serie A's top wage earner by a clear margin, according to a report published in an Italian sports daily.

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has been named as Serie A's top earner in a report published by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

De Rossi takes home £5.47m per year, according to the survey published earlier today, close to £1m more than any other player in Serie A.

Napoli's club-record signing Gonzalo Higuain is just behind after being handed a bumper contract by the Azzurri worth around £4.6m a season.

Inter Milan's experienced Argentine duo Diego Milito and Esteban Cambiasso follow in the list of high earners, while summer arrivals Carlos Tevez and Mario Gomez are also notable inclusions.

The report also reveals that AC Milan have handed Kaka a salary identical to Mario Balotelli after he completed his return to the San Siro last week, with defender Philippe Mexes taking home the same salary of £3.37m a year.
