Real Madrid transfer news: Rodrygo latest as 'offers on the table' emerge amid World Cup 2026 plans

Rodrygo transfer latest as 'offers on the table' emerge amid World Cup plans

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could explore a loan move in the January transfer window as he seeks to fight for a place in the Brazil squad at the next World Cup, the latest report has claimed.

The new La Liga season is underway, with Los Blancos winning all three of their opening league fixtures of 2025-26.

Despite his side's positive start to the campaign, forward Rodrygo has played just 81 minutes and started once in La Liga this term, and his limited time on the pitch has fuelled speculation that his future could lie away from the Bernabeu.

Rodrygo had been heavily linked with a transfer in the summer, but a switch to division's such as the Premier League failed to materialise.

Fichajes claim that the forward could ask for a loan move in the January window if his situation does not improve, especially ahead of the 2026 World Cup, adding that he has proposals to leave.

Why Rodrygo may need to leave Real Madrid in the January transfer window

Boss Xabi Alonso's side played six games in the Club World Cup, but Rodrygo only started once, and he did not start any of the team's knockout matches.

It is difficult to see the 24-year-old getting many minutes in his favoured left-sided role considering Vinicius Junior is certain to take up a spot on that flank.

The winger is also comfortable operating as a centre-forward, though Kylian Mbappe is Real's number nine, and the prospect of the Frenchman coming out of the XI is unrealistic.

Rodrygo is likely to head to the World Cup regardless of his form, but his chances of claiming a place on the left of Brazil's attack are slim, especially if his national team compatriot Vinicius Junior is consistently chosen ahead of him at club level.

Should Manchester City sign Rodrygo in the next transfer window?

One of the reasons Rodrygo did not move in the summer was that his lofty wage demands were not matched by interested parties.

After Premier League sides like Arsenal and Liverpool significantly strengthened up front, the number of sides able to afford his salary and offer him consistent minutes have shrunk.

Perhaps Manchester City would be his best hope for a move to England considering they have looked blunt in wide areas for some time, with striker Erling Haaland often their only significant threat in attack.

Pep Guardiola has struggled to replace the likes of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez, but taking Rodrygo on loan could add another weapon in the Spaniard's arsenal.
