Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid won the European Super Cup this evening with a 2-0 win over Sevilla.

The Portuguese scored his first on the half-hour mark, before adding a second in the early stages of the second period.

Sevilla had their moments, but largely struggled to test Iker Casillas in Cardiff.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during the all-Spanish affair.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Iker Casillas: Had a difficult summer for Spain, but showed no signs of a hangover with a positive performance. Strong from crosses and made some bright stops in the latter stages. (7/10)

Defence

Dani Carvajal: Unusually quiet in an attacking sense, but performed his defensive duties well. Has now fully ousted Alvaro Arbeloa as first-choice right-back for Madrid. (6/10)

Pepe: Typical performance from the Portuguese - strong and composed, but did get caught out on a couple of occasions when Sevilla countered. (6/10)

Sergio Ramos: Suffered a nasty full in the latter stages, but recovered to finish the match. A threat from set pieces and dealt with the threat of Carlos Bacca impressively. (7/10)

Fabio Coentrao: Like Carvajal on the opposite side, did not venture forward on too many occasions, but was never really in danger in defensive areas. (6/10)

Midfield

Luka Modric: Another super performance from the Croatian, who controlled the midfield alongside Kroos. Now seen as Carlo Ancelotti's first-choice central midfielder. (7/10)

Toni Kroos: Brilliant debut for the German, who showed his passing range throughout the contest. Looks set to start the season alongside Modric in the centre of the park. (7/10)

James Rodriguez: Former Monaco attacker showed glimpses of his World Cup form for Colombia, but was upstaged on the night by Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. (6/10)

Attack

Gareth Bale: Set up Ronaldo's first on his return to Cardiff and tested Beto with a couple of powerful efforts. Only disappointment was the lack of a goal for the outstanding Welshman. (8/10)

Karim Benzema: Was the quietest of Madrid's front three, but set up Ronaldo's second and came close himself with a couple of efforts from distance. (6/10)

Cristiano Ronaldo: Once more the star attraction as the Portuguese scored both goals to win the match. Always a threat and remains the go-to player for his team. (9/10)

Substitutes

Isco: Replaced James 20 minutes from time and immediately picked up the pace of the match. Has a fight on his hands to make Ancelotti's first-choice XI this season. (6/10)

Marcelo: Entered late on for Coentrao and had little time to make an impact in Wales. (6/10)

Asier Illarramendi: Hardly touched the ball during his four minutes on the field. (5/10)

SEVILLA

Goal

Beto: Could do nothing with Ronaldo's first, but might have done better with the attacker's second. That said, the Portuguese made some super saves throughout the contest. (7/10)

Defence

Coke: Tasked with marking Bale for long spells, the right-back stuck to his job impressively. However, he struggled to make his mark in an attacking sense. (6/10)

Federico Fazio: Sevilla's new skipper was brilliant on the night. Made block after block and proved a towering presence in the air. Has developed into a fine defender. (7/10)

Nico Pareja: Slightly less assured than centre-back partner Fazio, but did make some important blocks, especially in the second period. (6/10)

Fernando Navarro: Standout moment arrived in second period when he made a stunning last-ditch challenge on Ronaldo. Proved to be a composed presence in the full-back position. (6/10)

Midfield

Daniel Carrico: Had Sevilla's best chance in the latter stages of the first period, but fired his effort straight at Casillas. Plenty of running, but little end product. (6/10)

Grzegorz Krychowiak: Debut boy proved a dependable performer in the middle of the park. Strong without the ball and comfortable with it. Looks to be a good acquisition for the club. (6/10)

Denis Suarez: Easily Sevilla's best player in the first period, but faded in the second. On-loan Barcelona attacker could play a key role for Emery's side this season. (7/10)

Attack

Vitolo: Cut a frustrated figure for long spells as Sevilla struggled to break through the Madrid defence. Always available, but did not have much of an influence on proceedings. (6/10)

Carlos Bacca: Another that had a frustrating evening. The Colombian was full of goals last season, but struggled for service this evening. (5/10)

Aleix Vidal: Summer signing from Almeria used his pace to threaten in the early moments, but faded badly as the match progressed. Was replaced after 67 minutes. (5/10)

Substitutes

Iago Aspas: On-loan Liverpool attacker showed some nice touches during his 20 minutes on the field, but never got close enough to goal to really cause any problems. (5/10)

Jose Antonio Reyes: Replaced Suarez with 10 minutes remaining and contributed to his side's strong finish with a number of dangerous corners. Has real quality from set pieces. (6/10)

Diogo Figueiras: Entered after 85 minutes and therefore had little time to make an impact. (5/10)
