Sergio Ramos insists that Real Madrid can successfully retain the Spanish first division title despite being eight points off the pace at the moment.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes that they can still catch Barcelona at the top of the table in La Liga.

The defending Spanish champions are eight points behind the league leaders despite their 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

"Now we have to focus on the Champions League, enjoy the victory, and continue to fight for la Liga," he is quoted as saying on Madrid's official website. "We have to continue on this path and narrow the gap.

"This weekend's work is already done. We are very confident and La Liga is very long and as long as no one is mathematically the champion, which won't be for a while, Real Madrid will be there."

Madrid will take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.
