Bayer Leverkusen have signed Real Madrid youngster Daniel Carvajal on a five-year deal.
Carvajal, 20, was behind the likes of Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Arbeloa in the right-back pecking order at the Bernabeu, and the lure of more regular first-team football was enough to drag the defender away from the Spanish giants.
"We have managed to strengthen ourselves in the position of right-back with this transfer," said Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser.
"Daniel Carvajal is already an outstanding player but still has immense potential due to his young age. [Jose] Mourinho recommended Carvajal highly.
"He thinks a lot of the boy, but also said that he could continue to perform at another club. In real terms, he's behind Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Arbeloa. With us, he can continue to perform."
Carvajal was part of Spain's Under-19s side when they won the European Championships last year.
