Thibaut Courtois to miss UEFA Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid

New Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will not feature during this evening's UEFA Super Cup clash with former club Atletico Madrid due to an apparent admin error.

The Belgian shot-stopper had been expected to make his debut for the European champions following his £35m move from Chelsea, but may now have to wait until the opening day of the new La Liga season on Saturday.

Cadena COPE reports that Real failed to register Courtois with UEFA in time for the game, despite completing the transfer almost a week ago.

The 26-year-old will now watch the Madrid derby from the sidelines in Tallinn, with Keylor Navas expected to start in goal for Los Blancos instead.

Courtois could now make his debut during the league clash with Getafe at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

Wednesday's match will be the first time that two teams from the same city have contested the UEFA Super Cup final, with Champions League winners Real bidding to lift the trophy for a third year in a row.
