Real Madrid injury, suspension news vs. Alaves: Federico Valverde, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos updates

Valverde, Alaba, Ceballos, Mendy latest: Real Madrid injury, suspension news vs. Alaves

Real Madrid will be bidding to bounce back from successive defeats when they continue their La Liga campaign with a contest against relegation-threatened Alaves on Sunday afternoon.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were beaten 2-1 at home by Valencia in Spain's top flight last weekend, and the reigning champions are second in the La Liga table, four points off the leaders Barcelona.

Los Blancos then suffered a 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night, with the European champions facing a huge task when it comes to advancing to the final four.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the team's injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Alaves, who occupy 17th in the table, two points above 18th-placed Leganes in the battle for survival.

Dani Carvajal

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Real Madrid remain without the services of Carvajal due to the severe knee injury that the right-back suffered in the clash with Villarreal on October 5, but the Spaniard has made excellent progress in his recovery, and a return before the end of the season is possible.

Eder Militao

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Real Madrid centre-back Militao damaged his ACL during a La Liga clash with Osasuna back in November, but he is now back on the training field, and a return for the Club World Cup is thought to be a possibility.

Ferland Mendy

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: April 13 (vs. Alaves)

Mendy was forced off in the latter stages of the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on March 12 due to a muscular issue, which has sidelined him in recent weeks, but the defender could potentially return this weekend.

Dani Ceballos

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: April 13 (vs. Alaves)

Ceballos has been absent for Real Madrid since the end of February with a muscular problem, but the Spaniard has a slight chance of returning to the squad against Alaves.

Federico Valverde

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Knock Possible return date: April 13 (vs. Alaves)

Valverde played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal, but the Uruguay international suffered a knock during the clash, and he will need to be assessed ahead of the contest with Alaves.

David Alaba

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Knock Possible return date: April 13 (vs. Alaves)

Alaba was replaced in the latter stages of the clash with Arsenal after suffering a knock, and the experienced defender needs to be assessed ahead of the league fixture this weekend.

Andriy Lunin

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: April 13 (vs. Alaves)

Lunin remained on the bench against Valencia due to a minor calf issue, and the club's number two goalkeeper was then left out of the squad for the game with Arsenal, but he should return this weekend.
