Real Madrid team news: Los Blancos 'suffer double injury blow' ahead of Arsenal Champions League clash

Real Madrid will reportedly be without goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and defender Ferland Mendy for Wednesday's Champions League meeting with Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos are dreaming of pulling off an almighty comeback after losing 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final clash.

Real Madrid already knew that they would be without Eduardo Camavinga for the second leg after he was sent off in the closing stages of the game at the Emirates Stadium.

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao were also guaranteed to miss Wednesday's fixture as they continue to work on their rehabilitation from long-term knee injuries.

However, there was greater uncertainty about whether Lunin or Mendy would be ready to feature in the matchday squad.

Unfortunately for Real Madrid, Marca are reporting that neither of the pair will prove their fitness in time for the midweek outing.

Mendy is not ready to return from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of Real Madrid's last five competitive matches.

As a result, Fran Garcia appears to be the only viable candidate to play on the left side of defence against the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Lunin will be absent from a third consecutive matchday squad as he continues to recover from a calf issue.

Crucially, first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is available for selection after returning to full fitness ahead of the first leg against Arsenal.

The Belgium international made a number of important saves despite his side falling to a heavy defeat in North London.

What about Ceballos's availability?

Dani Ceballos, who previously spent two seasons on loan at Arsenal, gave Real Madrid a much-needed boost at the weekend when he returned from a nine-game injury absence to feature as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Alaves.

The midfielder came off the bench in the second minute of stoppage time after he proved his fitness following a hamstring injury.

However, it remains to be seen whether Carlo Ancelotti will risk him from the start for Wednesday's quarter-final second leg.

Kylian Mbappe was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Alaves' Antonio Blanco at the weekend, but his ban will apply to domestic action, ensuring that he will be available to start against Mikel Arteta's side.
