Karim Benzema eyeing Alfredo Di Stefano goal record ahead of Paris Saint-Germain clash

Benzema eyeing Di Stefano goal record ahead of PSG clash

Karim Benzema has Alfredo Di Stefano's scoring record for Real Madrid in his sights ahead of Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second leg with Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international has been in excellent form for Los Blancos during the 2021-22 campaign, finding the back of the net on 27 occasions in 32 appearances in all competitions.

The 34-year-old was again on the scoresheet against Real Sociedad at the weekend, with the goal taking him to 306 in all competitions for Los Blancos, which places him fourth on the all-time scoring list.

Di Stefano scored 308 goals for the capital giants between 1953 and 1964, meaning that a brace against PSG would take Benzema level with the legendary forward, while a treble would place him third in the all-time list behind Raul (323) and Cristiano Ronaldo (450).

The Frenchman is also just five goals short of his best ever scoring campaign for Real Madrid, having netted 32 times in all competitions during the 2011-12 campaign.

Benzema has scored five times in six Champions League appearances this season but could not prevent his side from suffering a 1-0 loss to PSG in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
