Reading's Danny Guthrie refutes rumours of rift with boss Brian McDermott

Guthrie: 'No bust-up with boss'

Reading midfielder Danny Guthrie has echoed the words of his manager Brian McDermott by insisting that he has not had a bust-up with the coach.

The 25-year-old was reported to have got into a confrontation with the Royals manager after he was dropped from the team that drew 3-3 with Fulham on Saturday.

"I spoke to the manager and he had his reasons for not picking me and that remains between us," the Chronicle quotes Guthrie as saying. "There was no bust-up.

"It's frustrating for me because I want to help this team. Not having that win has made it harder, but I know the first one of the season is just around the corner."

Guthrie joined Reading from Newcastle United in the summer.
