Hughes: 'Lose on Saturday and I'm sacked'

Mark Hughes says that failure to beat Southampton on Saturday could result in him being sacked as the manager of Queens Park Rangers.

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes believes that he could face being sacked if his side fail to beat Southampton on Saturday.

The Hoops sit bottom of the Premier League table and are yet to win a game so far this season, having lost 1-0 at Stoke City on Saturday.

Despite receiving the backing of the board recently, Hughes feels that their patience may run out should they lose to fellow strugglers Saints at the weekend.

"Everyone knows the significance of that game now," Hughes told The Independent. "I have confidence in the players to turn this round, but it needs to happen next week."

"It's still early in the season but the longer that it goes on, it becomes more difficult for us to have the season that we hoped to have. The chairman was here today and at Arsenal and he saw positive things in our play and that encouraged him, it encourages us.

"But the disappointment is that we are not getting the reward that he is looking for and that we are all looking for because the aim of the season is to have a really progressive season."
