PSV vs. FC Twente - prediction, team news, lineups

PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente kick off matchday 11 of the 2021-22 Eredivisie season with their meeting at the Philips Stadion on Saturday.

Having both suffered defeats in their respective league outings last time out, the sides head into this weekend's contest in search of an immediate response.

Match preview

PSV Eindhoven suffered a heavy 5-0 loss in their top-of-the-table clash versus Ajax at the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Sunday.

Goals from Steven Berghuis, Sebastien Haller, Antony Santos, Davy Klaassen and Dusan Tadic left Roger Schmidt's men red-faced in Amsterdam.

The Rood-witten are now four points off the top of the standings, but there is still plenty of time to get back on track in the coming weeks.

Awaiting them next is a clash versus an opposing side who have not come out on top in any of the last 14 meetings between the teams.

With a crucial Europa League game versus Monaco to follow, Saturday's hosts will be looking to set the tone with an impressive performance this weekend.

Twente were beaten on home turf for the first time this term as NEC Nijmegen emerged victorious in a 2-1 win when the sides squared off on Sunday.

Ron Jans's men fell behind to an Elayis Tavsan opener five minutes into the second half before drawing level eight minutes later through Virgil Misidjan, only for Javier Vet to net the winner with a third of the half remaining.

The Tukkers are seventh on the log as things stand, five places and six points adrift of this weekend's opponents ahead of the contest.

Saturday's visitors, who eased past lower league opposition on Wednesday to book their spot in the next round of the KNVB-Beker, now aim to pick up where they left off in midweek

Team News

Twenty-two-year-old Cody Gakpo was unavailable last time out due to an ankle injury, and the forward is expected to play no part in this one.

PSV will also be without the services of Noni Madueke and Ritsu Doan, who are sidelined with thigh and knee injuries respectively.

Richard Ledezma still awaits his first outing of the new campaign as he remains sidelined with a torn cruciate ligament which he suffered last December.

Twente's duo of Vaclav Cerny and Jody Lukoki remain sidelined with long-term knee injuries and will both miss the trip to Eindhoven this weekend.

Luca Everink continues to nurse a muscle injury, while Kik Pierie is yet to fully recuperate from a back problem.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:

Drommel; Max, Boscagli, Ramalho, Mwene; Sangare, Van Ginkel, Gotze; Vertessen, Zahavi, Bruma

FC Twente possible starting lineup:

Unnerstall; Sadilek, Hilgers, Propper, Everink; Brama, Ilic, Vlap; Rots, Van Wolfswinkel, Limnios

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-1 FC Twente

PSV will be aiming to give an immediate response to last week's thrashing by claiming all three points in this one. We are backing them to come out on top, albeit by the narrowest of margins.
