PSG transfer news: Les Parisiens plot 'surprise' Barcelona free transfer swoop next summer

PSG plot 'surprise Barcelona free transfer swoop' next summer

Paris Saint-Germain face FC Barcelona this Wednesday, October 1 in the Champions League. And, precisely, the French club are reportedly considering recruiting a player from their rivals for free during the next summer transfer window.

It was the dream fixture for all supporters last season, it will finally take place, but only during the second matchday of the Champions League. Decimated by injuries, PSG will still attempt to put on a good show in Barcelona. Internally, the capital club are reportedly also studying the possibility of pulling off a good move during the summer 2026 transfer window.

Indeed, PSG would be interested in a Barcelona player who is coming to the end of his contract in a few months. According to information from Sport, Paris are considering recruiting Eric Garcia at the end of the season. Obviously, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt because it emerges a few hours before the clash between the two European heavyweights.

PSG preparing a move for Barcelona's Garcia?

Nevertheless, PSG are genuinely looking to strengthen their defensive sector. It is not the priority of the winter transfer window, but it remains a wish of the Parisian directors. Luis Campos must find a right-back, a midfielder and a winger. This is Paris's workload for this winter. But from next summer, PSG will be able to start looking for a centre-back again.

Paris are notably following Ibrahima Konate. But the Liverpool defender is closer to Real Madrid. The solution being considered would therefore be to recruit Eric Garcia for free. The 24-year-old player will be free of any contract in June 2026. In recent months, the Spanish defender has established himself as an important player in Barcelona's squad under Hansi Flick. An extension of his contract is not to be ruled out however and even seems to be progressing well.
