David Beckham has announced his retirement from professional football.

It had been speculated that Beckham would sign on for another season at Paris Saint-Germain, with his deal in France expiring at the end of the season.

However, the 38-year-old has revealed that he will bring down the curtain on an illustrious 20-year playing career.

Beckham began his career at Manchester United, making 394 appearances before leaving the club for Real Madrid.

He played 115 times in Spain, before signing a five-year deal with LA Galaxy, scoring 20 goals in 118 matches.

After leaving America, he signed a short-term deal with Paris Saint-Germain, making 11 appearances in helping his side to the Ligue 1 title.

The former England captain also made 115 appearances for his country in an international career spanning from 1996 to 2009.
