Benfica grab 2-1 win over PSG

Benfica beat PSG

Benfica have beaten Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the Champions League this evening, but the result was not enough as the Portuguese side missed out on qualification to the next round.

Benfica were the first side to threaten as Eno Perez hit a curling shot from 25 yards out, which goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu had to push over the crossbar.

PSG looked to hit back as Edinson Cavani played in winger Jeremy Menez, who opened up his body to unleash a tame shot that was easily stopped by the goalkeeper.

The home side almost made them pay minutes later as Nicolas Gaitan found space, before crashing in a fierce strike towards goal, which bent just wide of the far post with the goalkeeper looking beaten.

However, PSG took the lead in the 37th minute as Menez controversially collected the ball in a dubious offside position, before laying it back for Cavani to tap home.

The visitors' lead did not last for long, though, as Lima powered home a penalty just before the break to bring things level at half time.

Perez threatened again after half time as he fired in another curling strike, but Sirigu was equal to it as he got two hands onto the ball.

The home side then took the lead through Gaitan, who made the most of a loose ball in the box to dink a finish over the goalkeeper.

PSG sought to get themselves back into the game and Menez almost did so in the 69th minute, having lobbed the ball over the keeper, only to see it drift just wide of the post as the game ended 2-1.
