Paris Saint-Germain president "very disappointed" by Champions League exit

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi apologises to the club's fans following their "very disappointing" exit from the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has apologised to the club's supporters following their elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona.

The French champions succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Camp Nou in the second leg of their quarter-final clash last night, sealing a 5-1 loss on aggregate to exit at the last-eight stage for the third year in a row.

Al-Khelaifi admitted that it was "very disappointing" to once again fall short in Europe's premier club competition, but cited injuries as one of the reasons behind their failure.

He was also keen to turn his attention to domestic duties, with PSG still on course for a treble having already clinched the Coupe de la Ligue title.

"We are very disappointed with this elimination and apologise to our supporters. But you can't forget that the club has had a number of injuries to deal with," Al-Khelaifi told the club's official website.

"The players gave their maximum, but it wasn't enough to defeat Barcelona. We will now concentrate on the Ligue 1 title race and the Coupe de France final. It will be historic to do the treble."

Manager Laurent Blanc also stressed the need for patience in the club's bid to establish themselves among the elite of European football.
