New England vs DC United - prediction, team news, lineups

The New England Revolution will welcome DC United to Gillette Stadium for their Major League Soccer encounter on Sunday.

The hosts are 11th in the Eastern Conference standings with 25 points from 24 matches, while the visiting side are second from bottom, having amassed a miserly 19 points from 25 fixtures.

Match preview

The New England Revolution suffered a 3-1 home loss to CF Montreal last time out, another setback in their attempt to recover.

Their latest defeat makes it their third consecutive defeat in the league, and their seventh loss in the last nine encounters in the competition.

Although they started the current campaign poorly, managing one draw and losing three of their opening four matches, they experienced a resurgence between the end of March and the start of June, going unbeaten in nine matches, a run which included six wins and three draws.

Their fans would have thought they had turned the corner at that time, but their campaign began to unravel again, and they have failed to win any of their nine league fixtures, earning two draws and seven losses.

Another worrisome trend is that Caleb Porter’s team have been struggling on their turf, with five losses in their last seven exertions at home and 14 goals conceded in that time, five more than they shipped in the previous seven league outings.

Having lost at home in their last outing, the Revs have equalled their longest winless spell at Gillette Stadium, and defeat on Sunday could further extend their poor run of form on their home ground.

Meanwhile, it has been a terrible season for DC United, who succumbed to a fourth consecutive defeat last weekend and their seventh loss in eight fixtures.

Across all competitions, Rene Weiler’s team have not won since June 1, when they claimed a 2-1 victory over Cincinnati, losing nine games and recording a solitary draw in that period.

Since Weiler was appointed as a replacement for Troy Lesesne on July 16, the Swiss has endured a tough start to life at the helm of the Black and Red Eagles, losing his first three games in charge.

Entering this contest, the visiting side will be keen to avoid yet another defeat on the road, as eight of their 14 regular-season defeats in 2025 have come on the road, with four of those coming in their last four fixtures away from the Audi Field.

The last time both sides met on May 29, the clash ended 1-1, and that could be a source of inspiration for them on Sunday.

Team News

Ignatius Ganago has not featured in New England’s last two fixtures due to a quad strain, and he is likely to remain on the sidelines for this fixture.

Tomas Chancalay scored in his last two appearances, and he is sure to get a starting berth on Sunday.

For the visitors, Aaron Herrera could be back in the starting XI after he served a one-match suspension against Austin FC last time out.

Kristian Fletcher is still on the mend from a long-term cruciate ligament injury, which will keep him out of action until March 2026.

New Englnd Revolution possible starting lineup:

Ivacic; Omsberg, Yusuf, Miller, Feingold; Langoni, Fofana; Gil, Campana, Polster; Chancalay

DC United possible starting lineup:

Barraza; Bartlett, Servania, Schnegg, Dowdson; Leal, Rowles; Peltota, Pirani, Benteke; Peglow

We say: New England Revolution 1-1 DC United

Both sides are experiencing bad patches at the moment; that said, this fixture is likely to end in a 1-1 stalemate.
