Garner rescues a point for Preston

Leyton Orient have held Preston North End to a 1-1 draw at Deepdale in League One.

Mathieu Baudry's first-half strike gave the O's a 1-0 half-time lead, before a second-half Joe Garner penalty rescued a point for the Lilywhites on their day of mourning following the news that Sir Tom Finney - who enjoyed a 14-year spell with the club - had passed away on Friday.

Orient started the encounter on the front foot and would have taken an early lead if not for the intervention of goalkeeper Declan Rudd, who denied Baudry with a smart save in the opening exchanges.

Simon Grayson's men slowly but surely grew into the match and forged their first attempt at goal, with Craig Davies seeing his bid to open the scoring rebuffed by keeper Eldin Jakupovic.

However, Baudry atoned for his earlier miss by firing the Londoners ahead, smashing home Kevin Lisbie's knock-down header to give Russell Slade's charges a narrow advantage at the break.

The French defender went from hero to villain in the second half, tripping Davies in the area before Garner slotted the resulting penalty.

Despite their best efforts, Preston failed in their bid to find the winner and the sides settled for a share of the spoils.
