Simon Grayson: 'FA Cup win can breed confidence in Preston North End players'

Preston North End manager Simon Grayson admits that the FA Cup will take a back seat to the club's League One promotion aspirations in the coming weeks.

Simon Grayson is hopeful that Preston North End can build some momentum in their League One promotion push following this afternoon's 2-0 victory over Norwich City in the FA Cup.

The Lilywhites booked their place in the fourth round of the competition courtesy of Paul Gallagher's second-half double at Deepdale.

Despite the triumph, Grayson admits that the league takes priority in the coming months, while the club also have a Football League Trophy semi-final to look forward to next week.

"It's very pleasing to beat a Championship team looking to get back in the Premier League," he told BBC Sport. "Our keeper hardly had a save to make all game.

"The FA Cup is a fantastic competition but it's actually our lowest priority. The club is geared for the Championship and we want to get back there, and we have a semi-final on Wednesday. But doing well in the cup breeds confidence and momentum."

Preston are currently third in the League One table, three points behind Bristol City, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot.
