Portugal pay tribute to Eusebio following Euro 2016 triumph

Portugal pay tribute to Eusebio

The Portugal team have paid tribute to Eusebio following their 1-0 win over France in the final of Euro 2016.

Eder scored the only goal of the game in extra time as Fernando Santos's side overcame the host nation to claim their first ever major trophy.

Eusebio was a key part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the 1966 World Cup and is widely regarded as one of football's greatest ever players.

The striker, who scored 41 goals in 64 appearances for the Selecao, passed away aged 71 in 2014, but Portugal's Euro 2016 champions ensured that he was remembered during the country's greatest footballing moment.

In the team photo on the plane before flying back to their home country, a picture of the former Benfica talisman was placed next to the trophy to celebrate his impact on Portuguese football.

Both Eusebio's number of appearances and goals were records when he retired from international football, although they have since been overtaken.
