Portsmouth vs Norwich - prediction, team news, lineups

Portsmouth will be looking to start the Championship season with back-to-back wins when they welcome Norwich City to Fratton Park on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Canaries are searching for their first points of the season after losing to Millwall on the opening day of the season.

Match preview

After finishing in 16th place last term, Portsmouth made a positive start to their second straight Championship season, picking up a narrow win in Saturday's away clash against Oxford United.

Adrian Segecic scored the decisive goal on his Pompey debut to steer his new side to a 1-0 victory at the Kassam Stadium.

Unfortunately for Portsmouth, they were unable to back up that performance in Tuesday's home meeting with League One Reading in the EFL Cup.

Pompey conceded two first-half goals in the first-round clash, before youngster Olutayo Singerr came off the bench to pull a goal back with his first goal in senior football.

However, Singerr's stoppage-time goal proved to be too little too late as Portsmouth suffered a first-round exit for a second season in a row.

John Mousinho's side may fancy their chances of returning to winning ways on Saturday after pulling off a 5-3 victory in April's away meeting with Norwich.

Liam Manning is in the early stages of his Norwich tenure after leaving Bristol City to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup at Carrow Road.

Manning saw his side fall to a narrow 2-1 home defeat against Millwall on the opening day of the Championship season.

While he would have been disappointed by that result, Manning would have been pleased to claim his first win as Norwich boss in Tuesday's EFL Cup clash against Watford.

Josh Sargent and Marcelino Nunez both scored in the first half, and while Kwadwo Baah halved the deficit in the second period, Norwich saw out the remainder of the contest to claim a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.

Norwich will now turn their focus to their first Championship road trip of the new season, with the Canaries looking to improve on last term's underwhelming away record of four wins, seven draws and 12 defeats in 23 games.

The Canaries have avoided defeat in each of their last three competitive away matches since they lost 3-2 in March 2003.

Team News

Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack is set to miss around six weeks of action after recently undergoing knee surgery.

Winger Harvey Blair remains sidelined with an injury that he picked up on the final day of the 2024-25 season.

Former Norwich attacker Josh Murphy is a doubt for Saturday's fixture, having missed the first two matches of the season with a hamstring issue.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call Lucien Mahovo, Kenny McLean and Tony Springett due to injury.

Manning has revealed that Amankwah Forson will be out for a "considerable amount of time" after sustaining a serious hamstring injury in Saturday's defeat to Millwall.

Ante Crnac and Mathias Kvistgaarden were left out of Tuesday's squad, but the pair should be fit for Saturday's trip to the South coast.

Portsmouth possible starting lineup:

Schmid; Williams, Shaughnessy, Poole, Ogilvie; Swift, Dozzell; Lang, Segecic, Bianchini; Bishop

Norwich City possible starting lineup:

Kovacevic; Medic, Darling, Cordoba; Stacey, Wright, Topic, Schlupp; Kvistgaarden, Crnac; Sargent

We say: Portsmouth 1-1 Norwich City

Portsmouth will be looking to build upon Saturday's opening day win against Oxford, but we think that they may have to settle for a point against a Norwich side that is full of quality, especially as two of the last three meetings at Fratton Park have finished all square.
