PSG vs. Roma - prediction, team news, lineups

Paris Saint-Germain Women will attempt to claim their first points of the Women's Champions League group stage when they face Roma Women at the Parc des Princes on Thursday.

While the French side are bottom of the standings, Roma are currently sitting top of Group C with four points to their name.

Match preview

After getting the better of Manchester United in qualifying, PSG have found it tough going in their opening two group games.

The French side began the main draw with a 2-0 away loss against Ajax, before they were edged out via a 1-0 scoreline in their home meeting with Bayern Munich.

Having reached the knockout rounds in the first two years of the group stage format, PSG have their work cut out to continue that 100% record with four points separating them from the top two.

After winning just one of their last seven Women's Champions League games (including qualifying), they will need to find some consistency if they are to progress from the group stage.

The hosts will be targeting their first European clean sheet since December 2022 after conceding in each of their last eight Women's Champions League matches.

In contrast to their hosts, Roma have made a promising start to their second straight appearance in the Champions League group stage.

The Italian champions fought from two goals down to take a point off Bayern in their group opener, before they eased to a 3-0 win over Ajax courtesy of a Valentina Giacinti brace and a Manuela Giugliano strike.

Since that result, Roma have gone on to claim consecutive 2-1 league wins against Fiorentina and AC Milan to maintain their unbeaten record in the 2023-24 season.

Impressively, Alessandro Spugna's side have won 14 and drawn one of their 15 competitive games this term, ensuring that they head to the French capital in a confident mood.

Having averaged 3.67 goals across all competitions this season, Roma will certainly believe that they have the firepower required to cause PSG a number of problems in Thursday's contest.

Team News

PSG are expected to be without the injured quarter of Paulina Dudek, Jackie Groenen, Oriane Jean-Francois and Sandy Baltimore.

Midfielder Laurina Fazer is also a doubt after being left out of the squad for Sunday's 1-1 league draw against Le Havre.

After dropping down to the bench at the weekend, Marie Antoinette-Katoto is expected to return to the PSG side for Thursday's home fixture.

As for the Italian visitors, they will travel to the French capital without the midfield duo of Zara Kramzar and Barbara Latorre.

In positive news, defender Elisa Bartoli and forward Evelyne Viens are available for selection after recovering from their respective injuries.

Having scored six times in her last seven club appearances, Giugliano will offer a significant goal threat from midfield.

Paris Saint-Germain Women possible starting lineup:

Kiedrzynek; Le Guilly, Hunt, De Almeida, Karchaoui; Vangsgaard, Albert; Chawinga, Geyoro, Martens; Katoto

Roma Women possible starting lineup:

Ceasar; Di Guglielmo, Minami, Linari, Aigbogun; Giugliano, Kumagai, Greggi; Viens, Haavi, Giacinti

We say: Paris Saint-Germain Women 1-2 Roma Women

Roma have won all but one of their 15 competitive matches this season, and we think that they will continue that impressive record by claiming a narrow win over their hosts who have lost both of their opening two Champions League group games.
