Marek Hamsik opened the scoring in added time at the end of the first half, which had been keenly contested.

Christian Maggio calmed the Partenopei nerves in the 79th minute when he capped a fast counter attack after Hamsik had played him in.

Edinson Cavani then got his name on the scoresheet in stoppage time with a header from close range.
