Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill: 'Losing to Germany is far from disaster'

Michael O'Neill: "Far from a disaster"

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has claimed that his team's 2-0 defeat to Germany is "far from a disaster".

The Green and White Army conceded first-half goals from Julian Draxler and Sami Khedira in their Group C World Cup qualifier.

Despite the scoreline, O'Neill's men showcased a strong work ethic and remain in contention to qualify for the finals in Russia as they sit three points behind second-placed Azerbaijan in the group.

After the match, O'Neill told Sky Sports News: "I couldn't have asked any more of the players. We were disappointed to go behind the way that we did and lose the second goal at the time that we did because we were trying to control Germany.

"We've been beaten 2-0. I don't see any one of the other teams coming here and winning. It's far from a disaster and we have to look forward to the next game against Azerbaijan."

Northern Ireland have won one, lost one and drawn one in their campaign so far.
