Half-Time Report: Newport County bubble bursting at Northampton Town

Newport County are on course to suffer their first defeat in the Football League in a quarter of a century.

The Welsh outfit, who marked their return to the fourth tier of English football with a 4-1 win over Accrington Stanley last weekend, trail Northampton Town 2-0 at the midway point of this afternoon's game at Sixfields Stadium.

Newport dominated the early exchanges until on-loan forward Jacob Blyth, who signed from Leicester City yesterday, broke the deadlock against the run of play on 25 minutes.

Blyth headed home from 12 yards following a fantastic run and cross by Ian Morris.

The lead was doubled just two minutes later when more magic from Morris set up Roy O'Donovan, who converted a simple tap-in from close range.

Prior to Blyth's opener, Northampton had not scored a League Two goal in 267 minutes of play.
