Newcastle United's Steven Taylor "so happy" to receive England call-up

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor says that he is "so happy" to receive an England call-up following the withdrawal of Gary Cahill.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has revealed that it would be the "proudest" moment of his career if he makes his senior debut for England on Friday.

The 27-year-old has been called up to the squad to replace injured Gary Cahill for the World Cup qualifier against San Marino.

"It's a dream come true," Taylor told Newcastle's official website. "I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad.

"It is every player's ambition to represent their country and it is the greatest honour in professional football. If I am lucky enough to be given that chance over the next seven days, it will be one of the proudest moments of my playing career."

Cahill will have a fitness test ahead of Tuesday's fixture against Montenegro.
