Newcastle United striker target 'in talks' over new contract - and it won't have a release clause

'Release clause unlikely - Newcastle target 'in talks' over new contract

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly opened talks with Jorgen Strand Larsen over a new contract.

The 25-year-old suffered an Achilles injury at the end of August, meaning that he is doubtful for the return of Premier League football this weekend.

Strand Larsen is one of the brightest sparks in the Wolves attack, with the Black Country side recruiting more forwards on deadline day.

The Norwegian last featured during the EFL Cup win over West Ham United on August 26, when he netted twice in just 17 minutes of action.

Since joining from Spanish outfit Celta Vigo during the summer of 2024, Strand Larsen has scored 16 goals across 41 appearances for Wolves.

Wolves enter contract discussions with Strand Larsen?

According to The Telegraph, Wolves are looking to secure the long-term services of Strand Larsen before the January transfer window.

The report claims that the West Midlands side have opened talks with the 25-year-old striker regarding a new-and-improved contract.

Vitor Pereira's men are allegedly hopeful of agreeing fresh terms with the international player within the next few weeks, terms that will not include a release clause.

It is believed that Wolves received plenty of interest for the striker during the summer window, namely from top-flight rivals Newcastle United.

Hunting down an eventual successor to Liverpool-bound Alexander Isak, the Magpies supposedly saw two bids snubbed for Strand Larsen.

Newcastle got the better deal

After failing to secure the services of Wolves man Strand Larsen twice, Newcastle cast their scouting net onto the European market.

The North-East giants sealed the talents of Germany international Nick Woltemade, who has made waves for Stuttgart in recent years.

A towering figure with a surprisingly-good touch, the attacker has the hallmarks of a capable player in the rough and tumble of English football.
