Wolves transfer news: Signing of £23.4m international striker confirmed, ramifications for Jorgen Strand Larsen?

'It's Tolu time': Wolves announce £23.4m signing of striker, what does it mean for Strand Larsen?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Genk forward Tolu Arokodare.

With speculation mounting regarding the future of Jorgen Strand Larsen, Wolves needed to contemplate alternatives or replacements for the Norway international.

That led them to making an approach for Arokodare, someone who attracted interest from the likes of Napoli earlier in the summer.

However, the 24-year-old has instead signed for Wolves, with reports indicating that the West Midlands outfit are paying in the region of £23.4m.

Arokodare, who has four caps for Nigeria international, was the top goalscorer in Belgium's top flight in 2024-25 with 21 goals.

In total, Arokodare leaves Genk with 41 strikes from 113 appearances in all competitions.

"I didn't need convincing"

Speaking to the club's official website, Arokodare talked up the opportunity to sign for Wolves, despite the club sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.

He said: "It did take a while, but I'm here finally, and I'm happy to be here. I didn't need convincing. I know the history of the club and the players that have been here and how they've progressed to become better players.

"I like the project of the club, and that's what I want for myself. I want to improve and I want to progress, and help this team.

“I think I'll fit in pretty good. If you, for example, look at the strikers that we have now, we're almost the same profile, so it won’t be difficult for me to adapt. You could see how good [Jorgen Strand] Larsen did last season, and I'm just here to help the team.”

What next for Strand Larsen?

With just over three hours of the transfer window remaining, it is accepted that Strand Larsen will be remaining as a Wolves player.

Newcastle have since moved to agree terms for Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa, effectively ending their pursuit of Strand Larsen in the process.

Therefore, the 25-year-old and Arokodare will compete for a starting role in Vitor Pereira's squad, with the versatile Hwang Hee-chan another option for the number nine position.

Sasa Kalajdzic is expected to move out on loan, a consequence of Wolves not having enough foreign spots available in their squad in order to comply with Premier League regulations.
