Newcastle United's Ivan Toney returns to Barnsley

Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney heads back to Barnsley for a second loan stint at Oakwell.

Barnsley have secured the loan services of Newcastle United attacker Ivan Toney for a second time.

The 20-year-old spent some time at Oakwell earlier in the season, during which he scored two goals in eight appearances.

The Premier League Magpies recalled Toney from that stint early, but they have now granted him permission to return to the Yorkshire outfit until the end of the season.

"We're delighted to have someone of Ivan's calibre back for the remainder of the season. Having worked with him earlier in the season we know what he's all about and the strengths that he can bring to the squad," caretaker head coach Paul Heckingbottom told the club's official website.

"Ivan knows us well, he's familiar with the surroundings and he knows a lot of lads, so he'll be able to slot straight back in and carry on where he left off in December. As we have seen previously, his pace and power can cause the opposition huge problems and I'm sure he'll be a big asset for the remainder of the season.

"He's recently returned from injury with Newcastle and we have to be mindful of that, but physically he's in great condition and ready to go."

Toney joined Newcastle from Northampton Town last summer.
