Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Feyenoord centre-back David Hancko.

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

The Magpies finished the 2022-23 campaign with the joint-best defensive record alongside Manchester City after conceding 33 goals in 38 games.

The formidable central defensive partnership of Fabian Schar and Sven Botman helped Newcastle achieve a top-four finish, securing qualification to the Champions League group stage.

Although the Magpies boast a resolute backline, Eddie Howe is keen to add strength in depth ahead of a Champions League campaign.

According to journalist Santi Ouana, Newcastle have added Hancko to their shortlist of centre-back targets for the summer transfer window.

The Magpies have made an enquiry to establish Hancko's availability and Feyenoord's financial demands for the Slovakia international.

The 26-year-old predominately plays as a centre-back, but he is also capable of operating on the left side of defence.

Hancko joined Feyenoord from Sparta Prague last summer, and he quickly established himself as an integral part of Arne Slot's side, making 45 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with four goals and five assists.

The former Fiorentina defender started 31 of Feyenoord's 34 league games, helping his side claim their first Eredivisie title since 2017.

Hancko, who has earned 27 caps for Slovakia, is under contract with the Dutch champions until the summer of 2027.

In addition to Hancko, Newcastle have allegedly identified Fulham defender Joachim Andersen as someone that could strengthen their backline.

Newcastle are also set to bolster their midfield options, with Sandro Tonali on the verge of completing a transfer from AC Milan.

The Magpies are expected to pay €70m (£60.2m) with add-ons for the Italy international, who will sign a long-term contract until June 2029.
