Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko was delighted that his side ended their eight-match losing streak in the Premier League with their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
The Magpies edged closer to safety in their relegation battle as Ayoze Perez earned his side a point by cancelling out Victor Anichebe's opener at St James' Park.
Sissoko believes that his side could have taken the victory and rued their misfortune in front of goal as they were forced to settle for a point.
"When you have eight defeats in a row, you have to stop it, so for me, it was a good point," the Frenchman told the club's official website.
"We played well - we showed some character and did some very good things. West Brom had maybe two chances apart from their goal - that is it. We had the possession, a lot of crosses and a lot of corners but we just couldn't get the second goal we deserved.
"We tried to do the best we could and we were unlucky because we had a lot of chances to win the game, but weren't able to. One point is better than nothing, though, and if we want to stay in the Premier League we have to keep playing like this."
Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League table, two points clear of the relegation zone with two games remaining in their campaign.
