John Carver confident of Premier League survival

Newcastle United boss John Carver says that he and the players know what is at stake when they play West Ham United on the final day of the Premier League season.

Newcastle United head coach John Carver has insisted that he and the players are aware of what is at stake when they face West Ham United on Sunday.

The Mapgies will be relegated to the Championship if they fail to beat the Hammers at St James' Park and Hull City beat Manchester United at the KC Stadium.

Newcastle last suffered relegation from the Premier League in 2009, and Carver believes that his side will not experience the same fate that Alan Shearer's team did six years ago.

"We realise how big this game is," Carver told Sky Sports News. "Players in that room have been in this situation at this football club, it wasn't nice six years ago and I think their experience of trying to handle the occasion will put us in good stead.

"If the worst comes to the worst and we go down then people will fear for their jobs at the stadium and at the training ground - that's not a nice feeling. But we are all confident and right behind what we are trying to do."

Newcastle are two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of the final round of fixtures.
