Rafael Benitez "not happy" with Brighton & Hove Albion stalemate

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez admits that he is unhappy but praises his side's effort following their goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that he is "not happy" but has praised his side's workrate after they played out a goalless draw with Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon.

The Magpies have now taken just five points from the last 36 available - a terrible run of form stretching back to the end of October that has included nine defeats.

As a result, Benitez's side are 16th in the Premier League table and just one point above the dropzone as 2017 comes to a close.

"We are not happy because we wanted to win," the Spaniard told Sky Sports News after the game. "It could be better for us but I would also say they did well. They were controlling the tempo of the game, it is a pity but at least the team was fighting.

"You have to try and get three points from these types of games. In the second half we had more chances, we were pushing hard. That was a positive thing.

"The fans are amazing for the team, they have to be behind the team all the time. They know that these players are giving everything."

Next up for Newcastle is a trip to fellow strugglers Stoke City in less than 48 hours' time.
