Rafael Benitez: 'Newcastle United motivated to beat Premier League opposition'

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez says that his side are motivated to beat Premier League opposition when they face Hull City in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has backed his team to hit back from their first league defeat in 10 games when they face Hull City in the EFL Cup.

The Magpies had recorded eight wins and one draw in the Championship before they suffered a 1-0 setback at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

However, Newcastle have the chance to redeem themselves in the League Cup on Tuesday night, and Benitez has said that he and his players are motivated to upset the Premier League side.

The 56-year-old told reporters: "It's a motivation for us to play against a Premier League team. They play at home, so they have a little bit of an advantage.

"When you play two games a week, the next game is a chance to change things. We approach every game with confidence. We know we will have the right motivation and the concentration to do well."

Newcastle have not reached the semi-finals of the League Cup since 2005.
