Both beaten by one of Serie A's top two last weekend, mid-table rivals Empoli and Sassuolo will aim to bounce back at Stadio Carlo Castellani on Saturday.

While the hosts have lost their last two games without scoring, their Emilian counterparts had won three out of five before becoming Napoli's latest victims at Stadio Maradona.

Empoli and Sassuolo have never drawn a Serie A match in 10 previous meetings at the top level, but given both sides' recent troubles in attack, a low-scoring encounter could be on the cards. This term, the Azzurri have won just once at home; the Neroverdi only once away, so a stalemate is surely in store at the Castellani.

Salernitana vs. Cremonese (Saturday, 2.00pm)

Facing each other for the first time in Serie A, mid-table Salernitana and rock-bottom Cremonese meet at Stadio Arechi on Saturday afternoon.

While the hosts enjoyed one of their best days since returning to the top flight when beating Lazio last week, their visitors are yet to win a league game following promotion in May.

We say: Salernitana 2-1 Cremonese

If they are to have a chance of staying up this season, Cremonese must surely target games such as Saturday's, when they meet another club only recently back in the big time. However, Salernitana are far further ahead in their development and have proven they can score against any side, so the Grigiorossi's long search for a win will go on.

After finally suffering their first defeat of the season, Napoli seek an immediate response in a top-of-the-table clash with Atalanta BC on Saturday.

Separated by five points at the summit of the Serie A standings - with the visitors holding the upper hand - both teams have surpassed the traditional giants of Calcio in the opening third of the season.

Atalanta have found the net in each of their last eight league games against Napoli - and Bologna, Ajax, and now Liverpool have each scored twice against the Serie A leaders over the past few weeks.

However, the Azzurri's formidable firepower at the other end means they can breach their hosts' mean defence more than once and secure a ninth straight league win.

AC Milan vs. Spezia (Saturday, 7.45pm)

Having followed a league loss last weekend with spectacular success in Europe, AC Milan are back in action on Saturday, when they host struggling Spezia at San Siro.

The Rossoneri bounced back from a disappointing defeat to Torino in Serie A by beating RB Salzburg to seal progress in the Champions League, and they now face a side yet to record either a point or even a goal on their travels.

We say: AC Milan 2-0 Spezia

There is no reason to think that Spezia will break their duck on the road this time out, as they face a formidable force in the shape of Milan at San Siro. With little to offer up front, the visitors will be overpowered by the Scudetto holders at the other end; keeping the hosts in touch with Napoli at the top of the table.
